現地時間2025年7月4日（金）、午前7時に起きた。体調が万全ではなく外出しなかった。
自宅のテレビでは、スポーツチャンネルを見ることができる。これが私にとってはとても嬉しい。冬にはそのチャンネルでアイスホッケーを毎日のように見て、今の時期は野球を観戦している。
今日見たのは3試合。ニューヨーク・ヤンキース対ニューヨーク・メッツ、デトロイト・タイガース対クリーブランド・ガーディアンズ、そしてヒューストン・アストロズ対ロサンゼルス・ドジャースだ。
これらのチームのうちドジャースを除くと、知らない選手が多かった。最近の日本のテレビ局はドジャースの試合しかほとんど放送しないため、私にとって他のチームを見る機会は貴重だ。
一昨日散歩に出たとき、トロント・ブルージェイズの帽子をかぶった人を何人か目撃した。去年や昨冬は、ブルージェイズの帽子を街なかでほとんど見かけなかった気がする。
ブルージェイズは、メジャーリーグのなかでカナダ唯一の球団。ここまでのリーグ戦では高い順位につけている。この秋のプレーオフに進出して、カナダ人の野球に対する関心を高めてくれたら嬉しい。
On Friday, July 4th, 2025, I got up around 7:00 a.m. PDT and didn’t go out because I wasn’t feeling completely well.
One of the advantages of staying in the house where I’m living in Canada is that I can watch a sports channel on TV. During the winter season, I was obsessed with watching ice hockey games on it, and since returning to this country this season, I’ve been watching baseball.
The games I watched today were three matchups: one between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets, another between the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Guardians, and the other between the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Among the teams I saw today—except for the Dodgers—there were a lot of players I didn’t know, although I recognized some batters and pitchers who have been playing for a long time. Japanese TV channels these days almost exclusively broadcast Dodgers games, so it’s a rare chance for me to see players from other teams.
When I went for a walk two days ago, I saw several people wearing Toronto Blue Jays hats, even though I don’t remember seeing many people wearing them last year or this past winter. The only MLB team from Canada has been ranking high in their division so far, so I hope they advance to the playoffs this fall and draw more Canadians’ attention to baseball.
