現地時間2025年7月5日（土）、午前9時ごろに起きた。ホストマザーが祭りに行かないかと前々から勧めてくれていたが、今日は家で休みたかったので行かなかった。ホストマザーは、祭りの景品としてメープルシロップをもらってきた。
自分宛の配達通知書が家に届いていた。そこで私は近所の郵便局へ行き、荷物を受け取った。この荷物は両親が送ってくれたもので、私の生活用品などが入っている。
こんなに速く、日本から郵便物が届くとは思っていなかった。両親が発送の手続きをしたのは、日本時間の7月1日火曜日。総重量は5.8キロで、送料はおよそ1万5000円だった。
カナダの配送システムでよく分からないことがある。荷物を家で受け取ることができるのか、という点だ。昨日も今日も私はほとんどの時間、家で受け取ることができたが、なぜだかそれは叶わなかった。去年、日本から荷物が届いた際も同様の経験をしている。やはり配達通知書を持って郵便局まで取りに行かなければならなかった。
On Saturday, July 5th, 2025, I got up around 9:00 a.m. PDT. There was a festival in Vancouver that my host mother had suggested I visit, but I didn’t go because I wanted to rest at home. She got a bottle of maple syrup as a prize for winning a game that was part of the festival.
Before she went there, she told me that a delivery notice for me had arrived at our house, so I went to the post office located inside a pharmacy in my neighborhood and picked up a box filled with my belongings that my parents had sent.
I was surprised at how quickly the luggage had been delivered from Japan, since my parents had sent it on Tuesday this week, Japan time. It weighed 5.8 kg and cost about 15,000 yen to ship.
What I don’t understand about the delivery system in Canada is whether I can receive this type of box at home. I was at home most of the time both yesterday and today, so it should have been possible for me to receive the box at home. The last time I received boxes shipped from Japan, I also had to go to the post office after getting a delivery notice.
