現地時間2025年7月8日（火）、午前10時ごろに起きた。午後に家を出て、弓道の練習をした。バンクーバーの弓道クラブはこれまで通りの、月曜と土曜の練習のほか、最近では火曜日にも練習を実施している。
弓道の練習前、私はThornton Parkという公園を訪れた。メインストリート-サイエンスワールド駅とパシフィック・セントラル駅という、2つの駅の目の前にある公園だ。浮浪者のような怪しげな人たちが、公園のあたりでたむろしており、私は彼らを避けるようにして散歩した。
公園に立つアメリカキササゲが満開だった。白い華やかな花で、バンクーバーで咲く花のなかではお気に入りの1つだ。去年の7月にも別の場所で見かけた。
今日の午後、雨が降った。土砂降りに近い時間帯もあったほどだ。だが私は傘を持っていなかった。気候に恵まれた夏のバンクーバーで、そんな天気になるとは思っていなかったからだ。道を歩いているほかの人たちも、私と同様に傘を持っていなかった。
On Tuesday, July 8th, 2025, I got up around 10:00 a.m. PDT and left home in the afternoon to practice Japanese archery in Vancouver. The local Japanese archery club regularly holds practices on Mondays and Saturdays, and recently started offering a class on Tuesdays as well.
Before shooting arrows, I visited Thornton Park, which is located in front of two stations: Main Street-Science World Station and Pacific Central Station. To avoid interacting with some sketchy people around the park, I walked around cautiously.
A tall tree in the park, the southern catalpa, was in full bloom. It’s one of my favorite flowering trees in Vancouver, and I saw it in other places last July too.
Unlike usual, it rained in Vancouver in the afternoon and evening. Even though it was almost pouring at times, I didn’t have an umbrella because I hadn’t expected that kind of weather. I saw other people like me walking through the fairly heavy rain without one.
