現地時間2025年7月9日（水）、午前10時半に起きた。20時に家を出て、フレーザー川のそばを散歩した。
この川沿いには、ボダイジュの仲間の木が立ち並んでいる。少し離れたところから木々を見ると、黄色い花が咲いているように感じる。黄色く見える部分は実際は花ではなく、苞葉だ。地面に落ちている苞葉もたくさんあり、木の下は色が変わっている。
川沿いとは別のある場所で私は、苞葉が落ちていく瞬間を目撃した。苞葉は空中をくるくる回りながら、地面へ落ちていった。これによって、種を遠くまで運ぶことが可能になるのだろう。
ボダイジュの仲間は、バンクーバーで多く見ることができる。主に街路樹として立っている印象だ。だが私自身、日本で目撃したことはない。インターネット上の情報（例えば熊本大学薬学部薬用植物園のウェブサイト）によると、ボダイジュは寺院によく植わっているそうだ。
On Wednesday, July 9th, 2025, I got up around 10:30 a.m. PDT and left home at 8:00 p.m. to go for a walk on the sidewalk along the Fraser River.
Linden trees are planted along the river. When viewed from a short distance, they appear to have yellow flowers, which are actually not flowers but bracts. Numerous elongated bracts have also fallen, coloring parts of the sidewalk.
In a place away from the riverside sidewalk, I saw a linden bract spinning in the air and falling onto the street. Watching it, I realized that a bract can work like a propeller to carry a seed far away.
While linden can be seen along streets in Vancouver, I’ve never seen it in Japan. According to many Japanese websites, it’s commonly planted in temple grounds.
