現地時間2025年7月15日（火）、午前10時半に起きた。午後に家を出て、弓道の練習をした。家に帰ってからは、メジャーリーグのオールスターゲームをテレビで少しだけ観た。試合は同点で9回が終わり、その後のホームラン競争によって勝敗が決まった。個人的には新鮮で面白いと感じた。
午後に外出していたホストマザーは、「今日は暑いね」と言っていた。日本の暑さと比べたら全然マシだが、私も暑いと感じた。家にはエアコンがない。部屋の窓を開けたり、小さな扇風機を回したりして、暑さをしのぐ。ちなみに、今日の最高気温はカナダ政府のデータによると26.7℃だった。
暑い夏の料理と言えば、「そうめん」。ということで、私は数日前にそうめんを買い、今日食べた。バンクーバーでそうめんを食べるのは、今日が初めてだ。冷たい昆布つゆにつけてすすった。
このそうめんを売っていた場所は、地元の食料品店だ。アジア系の商店ではない。大型スーパーでもない、ごく普通のお店だ。このことから、バンクーバーの食料品店に並んでいる商品がいかに多様か、うかがい知れる。この食材の多様さがあるから、移民もしくは私のような外国人が快適に暮らせているのだろう。
On Tuesday, July 15th, 2025, I got up around 10:30 a.m. PDT and left home in the afternoon to participate in a Japanese archery practice. After the practice, I watched a bit of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on TV. The game was decided by an extra contest—a kind of home run derby—because it was tied after the 9th inning. It was my first time seeing this kind of contest, and I found it exciting to watch.
My host mother went out in the afternoon and said that it was hot today, and I felt the same way. There is no air conditioning in my room, so opening the window and turning on a small fan are the only ways to cool down. For your information, the maximum temperature at Vancouver International Airport today was 26.7°C, according to data from the Government of Canada.
Whenever the hot summer season comes, I crave somen, a typical summer dish in Japan. So, I bought some a couple of days ago and ate it today with cold konbu soy sauce seasoning.
What impressed me was that I was able to buy the noodles at a local market that was neither an Asian market nor a large supermarket. This fact suggests that grocery stores in Vancouver offer diverse ingredients, which might be one of the essential factors that make it comfortable for foreigners like me, and for immigrants, to live here.
