現地時間2025年8月1日（金）、午前7時に起きた。午前中、公園を訪れて、あるボランティアに初参加した。
ボランティアの活動内容は、公園内の外来植物を除去するというもの。私はこの活動を通じて、カナダの植生を学びたいと思っている。
約10人ほどのボランティアが今日の活動に来ていた。このメンバーで、水辺に群生している、ある外来植物を刈り取った。
ボランティアチームを取りまとめている人たちは当然ながら、植物についての知識が豊富だ。外来種の横に在来種が生えているのを見つけると、それを誤って切らないようにと、私に助言をくれた。外来種と在来種、両方の知識を得ることができて、私としては学びの多い一日になった。
On Friday, August 1st, 2025, I got up at 7:00 a.m. PDT and went to a park in the morning to volunteer for the first time.
The volunteer activity I joined involved removing invasive plants from the park. As someone who enjoys observing plants, I hope to deepen my understanding of Canada’s vegetation by taking part in such opportunities.
Together with other volunteers, I used pruners to cut back a particular type of plant growing in clusters along the water’s edge.
The people who seemed to be leading the volunteer team were very knowledgeable about plants and pointed out things I wouldn’t have noticed on my own. One of them cautioned me not to cut a native plant that was growing next to the invasive species.
