最近、バンクーバーの本屋で本を買った。タイトルは「Vancouver Tree Book」で、著者はDavid Traceyだ。
バンクーバーに自生している、またはよく植わっている木を紹介している。掲載数は100種類を超える。
今日私がこの図鑑から学んだことは、Thornton Parkに立つある木について。これまで私はこの木を「アメリカキササゲ」だと思っていたが、図鑑には「オオアメリカキササゲ」だと書いてある。
ためになる内容だったが、残念なお知らせでもあった。私は以前のブログでこの木について触れており、表記を訂正しないといけない。
On Monday, August 4th, 2025, I got up around 11:00 a.m. PDT and practiced Japanese archery in the evening.
At home, I read a field guide that I had recently bought at a bookstore in Vancouver. The guide is titled Vancouver Tree Book and was written by David Tracey.
As the title suggests, it lists more than 100 types of trees that are either native to Vancouver or commonly planted in the area. It’s clear that this guide will help me identify the names of trees I see in parks and on streets.
What I learned from the book was informative, but disappointing. Although I had thought that a tall tree in Thornton Park was a southern catalpa, the guide says it is actually a northern catalpa. I’ll have to revise a previous post on this blog that mentions the park.
