現地時間2025年8月8日（金）、午前7時半に起きた。朝から出かけて、外来植物を駆除するボランティア活動に参加した。
ボランティアでの作業は、ある程度快適だった。森が日差しをさえぎってくれたからだ。ただし、棘のある植物が近くに生えており、ときおり棘が刺さるのは辛かった。
森のなかでの作業中、ある草が目に留まった。ハート形の葉っぱをもつ草で、実もつけている。私は、その果実の独特な模様に興味をそそられた。
名前はマイヅルソウという。ボランティアの人たちが駆除している外来植物とは違い、こちらは在来植物だ。
On Friday, August 8th, 2025, I got up at 7:30 a.m. PDT and went out in the morning to take part in a volunteer activity to remove invasive plants in a park.
Our volunteer group worked in the shade of the trees, which was much more comfortable than being out in direct sunlight. Still, there were some thorny plants around me, and I got scratched from time to time.
While pulling invasive plants, I came across some others with heart-shaped leaves. Their berries had a distinctive surface pattern, which made me curious about them.
They turned out to be False Lily of the Valley, a species native to BC, which meant we should preserve them.
