トーマス・ミュラー選手について、ホストマザーと話した。ミュラー選手はドイツ出身の有名なサッカー選手で、今月からバンクーバーのプロサッカーチームに加入した。ホストマザーは普段サッカーに関心がないけれど、ミュラー選手には少し興味を持っているようだ。
数日前に私が街なかを歩いていた際には、ミュラー選手の名前入りユニフォームを着ている人を見かけた。このことからも、同選手に対する市民の関心の高さが伺える。
私が最近気になっている話題は、これだけではない。キャノーラへの関税だ。カナディアン・プレスの記事によると、カナダ産キャノーラの菜種に対して、約76%の関税を中国が今日から発動するという。この問題は自動車産業と関わりがあり、日本の自動車産業へ間接的に影響を及ぼすかもしれない。
On Thursday, August 14th, 2025, I got up at 10:00 a.m. PDT and stayed home all day.
My host mother and I talked about Thomas Müller, the legendary German soccer player who joined the Vancouver Whitecaps this month. She usually doesn’t pay much attention to soccer, but she seemed a little curious about him.
Even when I walked around Vancouver, I noticed people interested in him, as I saw someone wearing a Whitecaps jersey with his name on it.
Another piece of news I’ve been curious about recently is tariffs on canola. An article by The Canadian Press reported, “A Chinese tariff of nearly 76 per cent on Canadian canola seed is set to come into force today.” It’s an interesting development because, in general, American tariffs on many countries tend to get more attention than Chinese tariffs. Moreover, this issue is connected to the automotive industry, which means Japanese car makers could be indirectly affected by the trade relationship between China and Canada.
