現地時間2025年8月31日（日）、正午に起きた。午後、エドモンズ駅の周辺を散歩した。
日系文化センター・博物館の近くを歩いた。建物の敷地内では、日本文化を紹介する夏祭りが開催中だった。私が歩いていた時間帯は、盆踊りをやっていた。敷地内はとても賑わっており、私もなかに入りかったが、入場料が15カナダドル必要だったのでやめた。
エドモンズ駅周辺では、別の祭りも開催していた。「Car Free Day」というイベントで、こちらは無料だった。通りが一時的に閉鎖され、屋台などが立ち並んでいた。
私は前日にも、ストリートフェスティバルを見かけている。開催場所は、グランビルストリートなど。こうしたストリートフェスティバルの盛況ぶりを見ると、バンクーバーは常設の歩行者天国をつくってもよいのではないかと、個人的には思う。
On Sunday, August 31st, 2025, I got up at noon PDT and went out in the afternoon to a neighborhood near Edmonds Station.
I walked around the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre, which was the venue for a summer festival celebrating Japanese culture. Bon-Odori, a traditional Japanese dance, was taking place when I was near there, and many visitors were enjoying the festival in the garden of the facility. Although I found the atmosphere lively and wanted to enter, I didn’t, since admission cost CAD 15.
Around Edmonds Station, there was another festival called Car Free Day, which was free to attend. Streets were temporarily closed, and stalls were set up as part of the street festival.
The day before, I had seen another street festival, which took place at various locations in downtown Vancouver, including Granville Street. Since street festivals in Vancouver can attract many people, I always think that the city should have shopping districts that are permanently car-free.
