現地時間2025年9月27日（土）、正午ごろに起きた。普段の土曜日は弓道の練習をするが、今日は休んだ。友人と会うためだ。友人は明日、母国のドイツへ帰る。
私たちはブリティッシュコロンビア大学に行き、人類学博物館などを訪れた。
キャンパス内にある日本庭園「新渡戸記念庭園」も見学した。庭園の中央部には池が広がり、水辺では南天が咲いていた。季節的には遅めの開花な気がする。
錦鯉を含む、たくさんの魚が池の中で泳いでいた。日本人にとっては馴染みのある鯉だが、ドイツ人である友人にとっては初めて知る魚だったようだ。
On Saturday, September 27th, 2025, I got up around noon PDT. Although I usually practice Japanese archery every Saturday, I didn’t today, as I was hanging out with a friend of mine who is going back to her home country, Germany, tomorrow.
We visited the University of British Columbia, and I showed her some places on campus that I found interesting, such as the Museum of Anthropology.
Another place we went to on campus was a Japanese-style garden called the Nitobe Memorial Garden. In that calm garden, a few flowers of sacred bamboo were blooming near a pond—though I think it was a bit late in the season for them.
In the pond, there were many fish—carp, including beautiful ones known as Nishikigoi. While carp is a familiar species to Japanese people, it was her first time learning about it.
