現地時間2025年10月14日（火）、午前10時ごろに起きた。昼ごろアイスリンクに行った。いつもの火曜日同様、スケートの練習をした。
今日試したのは、後ろ向きに滑る動き。両脚を開いたり閉じたりして、後ろに滑っていく。何度も挑戦するうちに慣れてきた。
夕方は、家で野球を観る時間だ。対戦カードは、ロサンゼルス・ドジャース対ミルウォーキー・ブルワーズ。試合は5対1でドジャースの勝利に終わった。先発の山本投手が相手打線を見事に封じ込めた。
私が野球の試合を観る目的は、楽しむためだけではない。実況や解説者の話を通して、英語を学ぶためでもある。
例えば、アウェイチームであるドジャースが4点リードしている場面。実況もしくは解説者のどちらかが、観客の表情を「long faces」と伝えていた。私にとっては初めて聞く表現だったので、意味を調べた。「悲しそうな顔」という意味だそうだ。
On Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, I got up around 10:00 a.m. PDT and went to an ice rink around noon, as I usually do on Tuesdays.
While skating for about an hour, I practiced skating backward by spreading and closing both legs evenly. After many attempts, I finally got comfortable with the movement.
In the evening, I watched a Major League Baseball playoff game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Milwaukee Brewers on a streaming service I had recently subscribed to. The game ended in a 5–1 win for the Dodgers, as their starting pitcher, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, completely dominated the opposition with a complete game.
I watch baseball games not only for fun but also to study English by listening to what the announcers and color commentators say.
Here’s one example of my learning process: when the camera showed the spectators in the late innings—when the Dodgers were leading by four runs—their faces were described as long faces. Since I didn’t know what the phrase meant, I looked it up and learned that it refers to people looking unhappy.
