現地時間2025年10月28日（火）、午前11時に起きた。夕方、カーリングの練習をした。
先週、初心者向けのカーリング教室を終えた。そこで今回は、実戦形式の練習に初めて参加した。練習の進め方は、試合と一緒だ。4人ずつのチームに分かれ、2チームがそれぞれ8個のストーンを投げ合う。的のなかに残ったストーンの位置によって、得点が決まる。
初心者教室に参加していたときは、どこにストーンを置くのかさほど気にしていなかった。だが、今日のような実戦形式の練習では、狙いについて指示を受ける。そのため、投げるスピードと方向をしっかり考える必要があった。
チームメイトと作戦を話し合いながら試合を進めていくのは、とても楽しい。一方で迷う場面もあった。それは、仲間がうまくいかなかった場合。私から助言をすべきなのか、何も言わずにただ楽しくプレーするべきなのか、その判断は難しい。チームスポーツの楽しさと難しさ、両方を体験した一日になった。
On Tuesday, October 28th, 2025, I got up around 11:00 a.m. PDT and went out in the evening for curling practice in Richmond.
Since I finished the beginners’ curling lessons last week, I joined a new kind of session — a practice that simulates real matches with other novices. We split into four-player teams, and two teams each threw eight stones on a sheet to compete for points based on the positions of the stones left in the house after all shots.
I had to pay more attention to the speed and direction of my throws than when I took the beginners’ course, placing the stones near the spot where our team captain, called the skip, had instructed in advance.
It was really fun to discuss and develop tactics with other members. On the other hand, I was torn between giving advice to a teammate who screwed up a throw and keeping quiet just to enjoy the game. In short, I experienced both the enjoyable and challenging sides of team sports, whereas I usually practice Japanese archery, which is basically an individual sport.
