2025年11月16日（日）、午前8時に起きた。友人と出かけた。
「デフリンピック」を観戦した。デフリンピックは、耳の不自由な人の国際スポーツ大会。いくつも競技があるなかで、私たちはバドミントンの会場に足を運んだ。
私がデフリンピックに関心を持ったのは、出場選手らしき人を日本で見かけたからだ。以前にバンクーバーで「Invictus Games」を観戦した経験も、私のなかでの障害者スポーツへの興味を高めてくれた。
実際にデフリンピックを観戦するのは、とても楽しかった。プレーは力強く、スピーディー。キプロス代表のある選手とデンマーク代表のある選手による試合は、特に面白かった。
聴覚障害のある選手を応援するべく、観客は声援以外の方法を用いていた。旗を振ったり、手を大きく動かしたり。選手だけでなく来場者にも聴覚障害があることを考慮して、大会の運営者は様々な工夫を凝らしていた。
実際、聴覚障害のある方を観客席で見かける場面があった。だが手話ができない私にとって、彼らと交流することは難しい。「手話ができたらよいのに」。そう感じる一日になった。
On Sunday, November 16th, 2025, I got up around 8:00 a.m. and spent both the morning and afternoon hanging out with a friend of mine.
We visited a large arena called Keio Arena Tokyo and watched badminton matches at the Deaflympics, an international sports event for deaf athletes. Since I recently saw people in Japan who were likely participating in the event, I had become interested in it. My experience watching the Invictus Games in Vancouver also encouraged me to attend.
It was a fun experience to watch the Deaflympics today. The athletes’ performances were powerful and fast-paced, and one match in particular—between a player from Cyprus and one from Denmark—was especially close and exciting.
To support athletes who cannot hear the sound of cheers, the audience waved flags or moved their hands energetically. Considering that many visitors were hearing-impaired, the event organizers also made thoughtful efforts, such as adding manga-style visual effects on the screens showing the matches. I actually saw several hearing-impaired spectators there, and it made me wish I could communicate in sign language.
