On Monday, October 6th, 2025, I got up at 4:00 a.m. PDT and practiced Japanese archery in the evening.
My housemates pointed out to me today that we are not allowed to use the stove in our home after 10 p.m. This is because the smoke detector in the kitchen is very sensitive, and we need to prevent it from going off late at night. If that happened, it would wake up the landlord living in the same house, as well as their child.
They said it is fine to use a microwave even after 10 p.m., as it does not generate smoke. Even so, because I am afraid of making mistakes at home, I decided to avoid using both the stove and the microwave during the restricted hours and instead buy meals at grocery stores that can be eaten without heating when I return home late at night.
I have had a similar experience at a house where I previously lived in Metro Vancouver. That house, which was a unit in a condo, also had a smoke detector that went off even when there was hardly any smoke. Using the stove at night was restricted, while I heated meals with a microwave back then.
