それでも、アイススケートの練習には行った。毎週火曜日の習慣だ。
自宅では、アイスホッケーの試合を観た。エドモントン・オイラーズ対ピッツバーグ・ペンギンズの対戦だ。オイラーズのコナー・マクデービッド選手と、ペンギンズのシドニー・クロスビー選手。カナダを代表する2人の名選手が揃ったこの試合は、オイラーズが6対4で勝利した。マクデービッド選手が、彼らしい見事なゴールを見せてくれた。
オイラーズのもう1人のスターであるレオン・ドライザイトル選手は、この日通算1000ポイントに到達した。
放送では、過去のオイラーズの選手による記録も紹介していた。ドライザイトル選手が824試合、マクデービッド選手が659試合で1000ポイントを達成したのに対し、グレツキー選手はわずか424試合で到達したという。1980年代にオイラーズで活躍していたグレツキー選手について詳しく知るのは、私にとって今日が初めて。現役選手の記録を通じて、過去の選手の偉大さを知ることができるのは、スポーツの醍醐味の1つだ。

At home, I watched an ice hockey game online between the Edmonton Oilers and the Pittsburgh Penguins, which was held in Pittsburgh. The game between the two teams, featuring Canadian legendary players—Connor McDavid for the Oilers and Sidney Crosby for the Penguins—ended in a 6–4 win for Edmonton. As usual, McDavid scored a spectacular goal, just as he often does.
Another star for the Oilers, Leon Draisaitl, reached 1,000 points today. The broadcast also introduced other Oilers players who have reached the same milestone, such as McDavid and Wayne Gretzky. While Draisaitl achieved the record in 824 games and McDavid did so in 659 games, Gretzky reached 1,000 points in only 424 games. This was the first time I had heard about Gretzky, who played for the Oilers in the 1980s, and it was interesting to learn how great a retired legendary player was by paying attention to a historical record achieved by an active player.
