現地時間2025年12月24日（水）、午前10時半に起きた。一日中家で過ごした。
アイスホッケーの試合を2つ、見逃し配信で観た。1つはカルガリー・フレームス対エドモントン・オイラーズの試合。もう1つはニューヨーク・レンジャース対ワシントン・キャピタルズの対戦だ。
最初の試合では、レオン・ドライザイトル選手がハットトリックを決め、オイラーズを勝利に導いた。ドイツ出身のスタープレーヤーである同選手がいかに優れているか、私は当初あまり分かっていなかったが、オイラーズの試合を継続的に観るようになってようやく理解できた。
2つ目の試合では、キャピタルズの主将アレックス・オベチキン選手に注目した。ロシア出身のオベチキン選手は通算最多得点の記録を持っている。記録の以前の保持者は、オイラーズの歴史的選手であるウェイン・グレツキーだ。
オベチキン選手はこの試合、無得点に終わった。ドライザイトル選手の場合と同じように、オベチキン選手の偉大さを理解するには、いくつも試合を観る必要があるのだろう。
On Wednesday, December 24th, 2025, I got up around 10:30 a.m. PST and stayed home all day.
While working on my tasks at home, I watched replays of two ice hockey games that had been played the previous day, using a sports channel I subscribe to. One was a game between the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers. The other was between the New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals.
In the first game, Leon Draisaitl, a German star player for the Oilers, led his team to victory over the Flames with a hat trick. I initially didn’t understand what made him great, but I recently started to see it as I watched Oilers games more consistently.
In the second game, I focused on the Capitals’ Russian captain, Alex Ovechkin. He is a legendary player who holds the record for the most goals in NHL history, surpassing the mark set by Wayne Gretzky. Ovechkin finished the game without scoring, and I felt that watching more of his games would be necessary to fully grasp the characteristics of his performance, just as I did with Draisaitl.
