現地時間2026年1月3日（土）、午前2時ごろに起きた。弓道の練習をした。
自宅でアイスホッケーの試合を観た。前日に開催された、ニューヨーク・レンジャースとフロリダ・パンサーズの一戦だ。
この試合は「ウィンター・クラシック」と銘打たれた、特別なイベントだった。何が特別かというと、会場が通常と違い、マイアミの野球場「ローンデポ・パーク」だった点だ。ウィンター・クラシックは毎年恒例のイベントで、昨年はシカゴの野球場「リグレー・フィールド」、一昨年はシアトルの「T-モバイル・パーク」が会場だった。
野球場は基本的に、アイスホッケーのアリーナよりも収容人数が多い。NHLの公式サイトによると、今年はマイアミの野球場に3万6000人以上の観客が集まったという。
ローンデポ・パークの屋根は開いていた。すなわち、選手たちは屋外のアイスリンクでプレーした。1月の屋外会場というと極寒の環境を想像しがちだが、開催地はマイアミだ。リーグの公式サイトによれば、当日の気温は約17℃だった。
2023年3月、私はこの球場で野球を観戦している。その際は常に屋根が閉まっていた。今思えば、開放的な環境で野球の試合を観てみたかったと思う。
On Saturday, January 3rd, 2026, I got up around 2:00 a.m. PST and practiced Japanese archery in the evening.
At home, I watched a replay of an ice hockey game held the previous day between the New York Rangers and the Florida Panthers.
The game, called the Winter Classic, was totally different from regular NHL games because of its venue. It took place at a baseball stadium in Miami—loanDepot Park—rather than a typical ice hockey arena. The Winter Classic is an annual event held around the beginning of the year. Last season, it was played at Wrigley Field, a baseball stadium in Chicago, and two years ago, T-Mobile Park in Seattle was used as the venue.
It was a special event because the capacity of a baseball stadium is much larger than that of a typical ice hockey arena. According to the NHL’s official website, more than 36,000 spectators gathered at the stadium in Miami this year.
Another unique feature of the game was that the players performed on an outdoor rink set up in the middle of the stadium, as the roof was open. One might imagine that an outdoor venue in January would be freezing, but this game was held in Miami. The league’s official website stated that the temperature there was 63.1 degrees Fahrenheit.
When I visited the stadium in March 2023 to watch baseball games, the roof was always closed. In hindsight, I wish I had watched a baseball game in the refreshing outdoor environment.
