現地時間2025年12月30日（火）、14時半ごろに起きた。夕方、外出した。
普段練習しているアイススケート場を訪れた。滑りに来たわけではない。アイスホッケーの大会を観るためだ。この大会には、アメリカやカナダ、日本のユースチームが参加している。
私が訪れた時間帯、日本のチームはプレーしていなかった。アラスカやシアトル、カリフォルニア、地元バンクーバーの男子チームを観ることができた。見た感じ、高校生くらいの選手たちが出場していたようだ。
試合は激しく、見応えがあった。プロかアマチュアかは関係なく、現地で観戦するアイスホッケーはいつだって面白い。大人か子供かといった要素も、あまり関係ない。
どの試合も50人以上の観客を集めていた。その多くが、選手の保護者だっただろう。リンク脇の座席や、2階の観覧スペースから熱心に声援を送っていた。
私のなかで印象に残ったのは、来場客へのおもてなしだ。リンク脇の頭上にヒーターが設置されており、観客は快適に過ごすことができた。施設内のラウンジには、ホッケーのテレビゲーム、そしてテーブルホッケーが用意されていた。
On Tuesday, December 30th, 2025, I got up around 2:30 p.m. PST and went out in the evening.
The place I visited today was an ice skating facility where I usually practice. An ice hockey tournament for youth teams from the United States, Japan, and Canada was being held in the building, and I was interested in the event.
Although I couldn’t watch a Japanese team play today, I saw boys’ teams from Burnaby, Alaska, Seattle, and California. They appeared to be high school students. Their matches were intense and fun to watch. I personally think that watching ice hockey games in person is always enjoyable, whether the teams are professional or amateur and whether the players are adults or youth.
Each game attracted more than 50 spectators, most of whom seemed to be the players’ parents. They cheered seriously from the seats by the rink on the first floor or from viewing areas on the second floor. Since heaters were installed above the spectator areas by the rink, people sitting there could stay comfortable. In addition, table hockey and a hockey video game were set up in an atrium-like space in the building. They attracted children who had likely been brought along by their parents to watch the games. I was very impressed by all the efforts made to welcome visitors to the event.
