現地時間2026年1月9日（金）、午前5時に起きた。午後、外出した。
今日訪れたのは、バンクーバー市内にあるヒルクレスト・センターだ。この施設は、2010年冬季五輪のカーリング競技の会場として建設された。現在はコミュニティセンターとして利用されている。図書館やカーリングリンク、アイススケートリンク、プール、フィットネスセンターなどを備える。
私が滑ったのは、15時半から17時までの時間帯。リンクはかなり混雑していた。学校帰りの学生が多く来ていたからだろう。滑りの上手な大人たちもいた。上手い人の滑りを眺めるのは楽しい。
この時間帯は利用料金が割引されていた。ふつうは約8カナダドルだが、割引されて4カナダドルほどだった。日本のリンクと比べると、4カナダドルは安く感じる。2カナダドルの時間帯を設けている、バンクーバー都市圏の他の施設と比べると、やや高い。
On Friday, January 9th, 2026, I got up at 5:00 a.m. PST and went out in the afternoon.
The place I visited today was Hillcrest Centre in Vancouver. The facility was built to stage curling events at the 2010 Olympics and has since been repurposed as a community centre with various amenities, such as a library, curling rinks, an ice skating rink, a swimming pool, and a fitness centre.
I joined a public skating session there today from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The rink was more crowded than other ice skating facilities I have been to in Metro Vancouver, probably because students could come there after school. Besides kids, I also saw skillful adults there, who were fun to watch.
The session was discounted and cost approximately four dollars, while the regular fee for public skating there is about eight dollars. Four dollars was cheaper compared to rinks in Japan, but more expensive than some other facilities in Metro Vancouver that offer “toonie skate.”
