現地時間2026年2月8日（日）、13時ごろに起きた。午後、アイススケートの練習をした。天気は晴れ。4羽のハクトウワシが空高く飛んでいた。
私は家で、冬季五輪のカーリングの試合を観た。ミックスダブルスという種目で、対戦カードはアメリカ対スウェーデン。両チームともに堅実なプレーを見せたこの試合、アメリカが勝利を収めた。
各チーム2人で戦うのが、ミックスダブルス。私にとって、この種目を観戦するのは初めてだった。4人組同士が戦う通常のカーリングとは、ルールや戦術がだいぶ違う。
ミックスダブルスの選手たちは、ストーンを的の縁や外ではなく、中心付近に多く置いていた。なぜそのような戦術を取るのか、私にはよく分からないが、ミックスダブルスのルールが関係しているのだろう。
ミックスダブルスのカーリングを野球にたとえると、ストライクゾーンに速球をどんどん投げ込む投手のようだ。一方で一般的なカーリングは、さまざまな球種を使い、内外角や高低に投げ分ける投手のようと言える。
On Sunday, February 8th, 2026, I got up around 1:00 p.m. PST and practiced ice skating in the afternoon. The weather was calmly sunny, and four bald eagles were flying high in the sky.
At home, I watched a mixed doubles curling match from the Olympic Winter Games between the United States and Sweden. After both teams showed solid performances, the U.S. defeated Sweden.
This tournament was my first time learning about and watching mixed doubles curling, which is played by two curlers per team. Curling matches are normally played by four players per team, and I was surprised at how different the rules and tactics of mixed doubles are from those of standard curling.
A major feature of mixed doubles is that curlers tend to throw stones around the button rather than toward the edge or outside of the house, which is common in the usual format. I am not sure why mixed doubles players use these tactics, but it may be due to the unique rules of the format. If I were to liken it to baseball, mixed doubles curling is like pitchers who aggressively throw fastballs into the strike zone, whereas standard curling roughly corresponds to pitchers who like to use a variety of pitches and throw them not only down the middle but also inside, outside, high, and low.
