現地時間2026年2月15日（日）、午前11時ごろに起きた。午後、散歩へ出た。
アニメのコスプレをした人が、バンクーバーのコンベンションセンター周辺に大勢いた。どうやら彼らは、SF、ホラー、アニメ、ゲームを扱うイベント「FAN EXPO Vancouver」に来ていたようだ。私自身は会場の中に入らなかったが、コスプレの本気度や人の多さから、イベントの盛況ぶりがうかがえた。
コンベンションセンターのすぐ隣の広場では、「Team Canada Fanfest」という別のイベントが開催されていた。冬季五輪関連のイベントで、カーリングやアイスホッケーの疑似体験ができるブースなどがあった。
会場には巨大スクリーンも設置されていた。普段はイタリアで開催中の大会を生中継しているのだと思うが、私が訪れた時間帯は、2010年のバンクーバー五輪が流れていた。男子ホッケーのアメリカ対カナダの有名な試合だ。その時間帯にはイタリアで競技が実施されていなかったから、代わりに過去の映像を流していたのかもしれない。それにしても、カナダの人は16年前のこの試合が大好きだ。
On Sunday, February 15th, 2026, I got up around 11:00 a.m. PST and went out for a walk in the afternoon.
While walking around the Vancouver Convention Centre, I saw tons of people wearing anime-themed costumes. They were apparently there for a sci-fi, horror, anime, and gaming event called FAN EXPO Vancouver. Although I didn’t enter the venue, the quality of the costumes and the number of visitors suggested how lively the festival was.
In a plaza right next to the convention centre, another event called Team Canada Fanfest was taking place. It featured the Olympics currently being held in Italy and offered sections where visitors could enjoy simulated experiences of curling and ice hockey.
A huge screen was also installed at the venue. I assume it mainly broadcast live coverage of events from the 2010 Winter Olympics, but when I was there, it was showing the famous men’s hockey game between the United States and Canada at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. It might have been because no events were being held in Italy at that time. Still, I was reminded once again how much people in Canada love that match.
